George Oscar Allen
1943-2004
TREZEVANT: Services for George Oscar Allen, 61, were
at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 2 at Brummitt Funeral
Home in Trezevant with Rev. Malcolm Norton officiating.
Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Allen, a laborer, died Saturday, October 30 in
Trezevant.
He was born January 24, 1943 in Trezevant to the late
Henry Hobart Allen and Mattie Iona Lowe Allen. He was a
member of the First Baptist Church in Trezevant.
Survivors include a brother, Danny Allen of Sparta; and
a sister, Virginia McConnell of Bradford.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Allen
and Jerry Allen and a sister, Barbara Allen.
Samuel Buford Campbell
1907-2004
MURFREESBORO: Services for Samuel Buford Campbell,
97 were conducted on Monday, November 1 at 11:00 a.m. at
the Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church with Brother
Lynn Stapleton officiating. Interment followed in the
Hebron Cemetery.
Mr. Campbell died on Friday, October 29 at the Middle
Tennessee Medical Center.
He was born August 3, 1907 to the late William and Sarah
Eudora Warbritton Campbell. He retired from the
Huntingdon Hardware Co. and was a member of the
Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church. He was one of the
last few real sons of a Confederate soldier. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Mary Thomas Campbell.
Survivors include a son, Samuel Thomas Campbell of
Memphis; a daughter, Martha C. Messick of Murfreesboro;
and grandchildren.

Marjorie Perry Drewry
1928-2004
GREENFIELD: Services for Marjorie Perry Drewry, 76,
were at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 29 at Meridian
Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Keith Pence
officiating. Burial was in Meridian Cemetery.
Mrs. Drewry, retired factory worker, died on Tuesday,
October 26 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born February 25, 1928 to the late Loyd Perry
and Irene Cantrell Perry. She attended Meridian
Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Greenfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivie Drewry.
There are no immediate survivors.
Jimmie Ramell Griffin
1923-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Jimmie Ramell Griffin, 81,
were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 29 at Brummitt
Funeral Home in McKenzie. Burial was in Mt. Olivet
Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Griffin, a homemaker, died Thursday, October 21 at
Forest Cove Nursing Center in Jackson. She was a
Jehovah’s Witness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allison
Carroll Griffin; her parents, Mary Gilliam Maness and
Luther Maness and a daughter, Janice Mitchell.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Faulkner of
Littleton, Colorado; a brother, Herman Maness of
Jackson; a sister, Sue Cassell of St. Louis, Missouri;
two grandchildren, Chris Mitchell and Rick Faulkner and
three great-grandchildren.
Wayne Kimbel
1949-2004
PARIS: Services for Carlton Wayne Kimbel, 55, were
at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28 at Ridgeway Funeral
Home with Bobby Sanders officiating. Interment followed
in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Kimbel, a computer numerical control operator, died
on Tuesday, October 26 at his residence following a long
illness.
He was born September 10, 1949 in Paris, to the late
Mabel Edna Hinson Kimbel and Bernard Carlee Kimbel of
Paris, who survives.
Mr. Kimbel worked at McKenzie Valve & Machining in
McKenzie and was a Vietnam Conflict veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Lois Farris Kimbel;
one daughter, Marsha Jean Smith of Paris; two sisters,
Judy Whit and Barbara Hutson, both of Paris and three
grandchildren.
Elree Lewis Horton
1919-2004
BUENA VISTA: Services for Elree Lewis Horton, 85,
were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 29 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapter with Minister Ted Gentle
officiating. Interment followed at Prospect Cemetery in
Hollow Rock. Military rites were conducted at the
gravesite.
Mr. Horton, a retired rural mail carrier with the U.S.
Postal Service died on Tuesday, October 26 at Baptist
East in Memphis.
He was born on May 28, 1919 in Lexington to the late O.C.
Horton, Sr. and Cora White Horton. He was a member of
the Bruceton Church of Christ, a World War II veteran, a
Carroll County Commissioner for 18 years and he served
on the committee that secured a nursing home for
Bruceton. He was also a member of the Hollow Rock VFW
Post 4349.
Survivors include his daughter, Ivey Elrod of Buena
Vista, Nancy Dorobiala of Huntingdon, Kathy Horton of
Collierville, Becky Todd of Trezevant and Betty Baggett
of Waverly; nine grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Ivey
Horton and a son, Elree Horton, Jr.
Gary Devon Porter
1962-2004
ATWOOD: Services for Gary Devon Porter, 42, were
held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 30 at New Hope
Baptist Church in Milan with the Rev. Brian Simmons
officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olive Cemetery in
Atwood. Mr. Porter, an employee of Milan Arsenal
Ammunition plant, died on Wednesday, October 13.
He was born April 30, 1962. He was a 1980 graduate of
Atwood High School, where he was an honor student. He
was a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church
and a member of the young adult choir.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Cunningham Porter
of Jackson; a son, Ian Garrett Porter of Jackson; his
mother, Evelyn Porter McCollum of Atwood; his father,
James Ollern Porter of Lavinia; his stepfather, Joseph
C. McCollum of Atwood; four brothers, Kenneth Wayne
Porter of Huntingdon, Bobby Lynn Porter of Lavinia,
James Bernard Porter of Atwood and Rodney Yvonne Carter
of Lavinia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Virginia Elizabeth Simmons
1931-2004
NASHVILLE: Services for Virginia Elizabeth Simmons,
73, formerly of Buena Vista, were at 2:00 p.m.,
Wednesday, October 27 at Bruceton Funeral Home with the
Rev. Joey Simmons officiating. Burial was in McAuley
Cemetery near Buena Vista.
Miss Simmons, a retired secretary at St. Thomas
Hospital, died Tuesday, October 26 at St. Thomas
Hospital in Nashville.
She was born August 18, 1931 in Benton County to the
late Albert Cidney Simmons and Naomi Bailey Simmons. She
was a member of Belmont Baptist Church and the Business
and Professional Women’s Association.
Survivors include two sisters, Faye Lomax of Huntingdon
and Patsy Dean of Clarksville and a brother, Bailey
Simmons of Hollow Rock.
Evelyn Hampton
1935-2004
BUENA VISTA: Services for Evelyn Hampton, 69, will
be conducted on Wednesday, November 3 at 1:00 p.m. in
the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jeff Simmons
officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Comfort
Cemetery.
Mrs. Hampton died Monday, November 1 at the Life Care
Center in Bruceton.
The family will receive friends in the Oak Wood Room of
Chase Funeral Home after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:00
a.m. until services on Wednesday.
Mrs. Hampton was born July 11, 1935 in Carroll County to
the late James Arthur and Sarah Bell Clark Hicks. She
retired from the Central High School cafeteria staff,
worked for Henry I. Siegel Company for 25 years and was
a member of Mt. Comfort Missionary Baptist Church. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Hampton,
who died on February 22, 2002; one sister, Inez Parish
and two brothers, Hubert Hicks and Onnie Hicks.
Survivors include one daughter, Belinda Lee of
Wildersville; one son, Chris Hampton of Buena Vista; two
sisters, Penny Horn of Lexington and Hazel Hollowell of
Huntingdon; two granddaughters and four
great-grandchildren. |
