Betty Joe Crocker
1945-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Betty Joe Crocker, 59, were
at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 7 at Williams Funeral
Home in Greenfield with the Rev. Richard Allen
officiating. Burial was in the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery
in Christmasville.
Mrs. Crocker died on Monday, October 4 at her home.
She was born March 25, 1945 in Greenfield to the late
Floyd Stout and Hazel Moore. She attended Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Crocker and Steve
Crocker, both of McKenzie; three daughters, Jennifer
Townes, Carol Plunk and Lisa Reeves, all of McKenzie;
two brothers, Larry Stout of Jackson and Mike Moore of
Trezevant and nine grandchildren.
Mary Frances Blount
SAVANNAH: Services for Mary Frances Blount were at
11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 12 at Shackleford Funeral
Home in Savannah. Burial was in Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Blount died on Saturday, October 9 at Hardin County
Nursing Home in Savannah.
Survivors include her son, Gary Blount of Murfreesboro;
five sisters, Glenda Hardin, Lynette Linam, Shelley
Scott and Charlotte Norten, all of Savannah and Vickie
Hale of Humboldt and several grandchildren, including
Chris Blount of McKenzie and Cindy Blount Jones of
Pinson.
Charles Hudson, Jr.
1921-2004
MILAN: Services for Charles Hudson, Jr., 83,
formerly of McKenzie, were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday,
October 9 at Brummitt Funeral Home with the Revs. Tony
Janner and David LeNeave officiating. Burial was in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Hudson, retired owner of McKenzie Auto Parts, died
Thursday, October 7 at the City of Milan Hospital.
He was born September 6, 1921 in McLemoresville to the
late Effie Coleman Hudson and Charlie Hudson. He was a
member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in
McKenzie.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly Garner Hudson; a son,
Jerry (Lodie) Hudson of McKenzie; two daughters, Wanda
Hudson of McKenzie and Peggy (Bill) Haney of Milan; a
sister, Virginia Tidwell of Memphis; five grandchildren,
Chasnie (Joe) H. Thompson, Jeran (Mary) Hudson, Terry
(Gale) Haney, Tim (Cindy) Haney, and Tami (Roger) Curry.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Hudson and a
brother, James Hudson.
Alma James “Chinaman” Hutch
1917-2004
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Alma James “Chinaman”
Hutch, 87, were incomplete at press time. He died on
Friday, October 8. Dilday Funeral Home in Huntingdon is
in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Mr. Hutch was well-known for his barbecue which he sold
for over 50 years from his Cedar Grove business, Hutch’s
Bar B Q Pit. The business was the subject of numerous
newspaper articles and received notice by News Week and
Money magazines as well.
He graduated from a one-room school in Cedar Grove and
was named the 1997 recipient of the Black Businessman of
the Year award from the Carroll County Civic League. He
sponsored several sports teams and chaired numerous
civic programs. He supported Al Gore Sr. in national
elections and knew past Tennessee governors. He also
served as the Cedar Grove Justice of the Peace. He was a
longtime member of the Morning Sun Methodist Church
where he served on the board and was a deacon. His first
wife, Annie Mae Peoples Hutch preceded him in death.
He was born August 26, 1917 to the late Earmon and
Hattie Elnora Milam Hutch in Cedar Grove.
Survivors include his wife of over 20 years, Annie; four
children, Mattie Jewel Garmendiz of North Chicago,
Illinois, Doris Jean Hamlett of Zion, Illinois, Thomas
Brent Hutch, Sr. of North Chicago, Illinois and Cheryl
Reynolds of Jackson; one sister, Jewell Evelyn Collins
of Huntingdon; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren
and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by two brothers, Hallard James Hutch and Earnest
Ray Hutch.
Mardell McDearmon
1928-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Mardell McDearmon, 75, were
at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 8 at Shiloh Cumberland
Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James McGuire
officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. McDearmon, retired employee of Wilker Brothers
Pajama Factory, died on Wednesday, October 6 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
She was born November 25, 1928 in McKenzie to the late
Mattie Geneva Finley Burrow and John Dudley Burrow. She
was a member of the Shiloh Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Thomas Duell
McDearmon; a sister, Faye Ridley of McKenzie and several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Leola Hill and a
brother, Ben Burrow.
Zelma Louise Price
1926-2004
HUNTNGDON: Services for Zelma Louise Price, 78, were
conducted on Saturday, October 9 at 11:00 a.m. in the
Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tony Boyd
officiating. Interment followed in the Oakwood Cemetery
in Milan.
Mrs. Price died on Thursday, October 7 at her home.
She was born January 24, 1926 in Carroll County to the
late Baxter and Minnie Bell Turner. She was a retired
garment worker for the Henry I. Siegel Company and was a
member of the Mixie Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Price,
who died in 1992 and one son, Jerry Edwards.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Madden of
Paris and Wanda Turrentine of Huntingdon; two sons, Dale
Price of Huntingdon and Willard Price of Manchester; ten
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Margaret Laverne Spain
1910-2004
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Margaret Laverne Spain,
94, were conducted on Saturday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m.
in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Barger
officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill
Cemetery.
Mrs. Spain died Thursday, October 7 at the Huntingdon
Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born August 17, 1910 in Carroll County to the
late Edward and Ella Smith Woods. She was a homemaker
and a member of the Cedar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas
Stacy Spain; one son, Eugene Spain; and three sisters,
Verda Spain, Mattie Blake Stroup and Lovie Jones.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Wilma Spain of
Cedar Grove.
Robert Henry Tafuro
1950-2004
HOLBROOK, NEW YORK: Services for Robert Henry Tafuro,
53, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 12 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with the Rev. Harrell Nation officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Tafuro died on Friday, October 8 at Christa House in
West Babylon, New York.
He was born November 15, 1950 in Glen Cove, New York.
Survivors include his father, Maurice Tafuro of
McKenzie; a brother, Frederick Tafuro of Ocean Beach,
New York and an aunt, Eddie Van Nostrand of Henry.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Myra W. Tafuro.

Laura Denise Tegethoff

HUNTINGDON: Joint funeral services were conducted
for Laura Denise Tegethoff, 25 and her son, Jayden Riley
Tegethoff, 1, on Wednesday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. in
the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Wendell Cary
officiating. Interment followed in Hampton Cemetery.
Ms. Tegethoff was born October 16, 1978 in Jackson. She
was a member of the Westport Church of Christ. Jayden
was born October 3, 2003 in McKenzie. Ms. Tegethoff was
preceded in death by her father, Floyd Tegethoff, who
died in April 1996 and one brother, Jeff Tegethoff, who
died in December 1998.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Barbara
and Leonard Ellis of Huntingdon; four sisters, Vickie
Scates of Yuma, Lisa Sloan of Clarksburg, Debbie Jackson
and Dione Turner, both of Huntingdon; two brothers,
David Tegethoff of Huntingdon and Kevin Tegethoff of
Cedar Grove. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Darrell Wilkes
1935-2004
HUNTINGDON: Services for Darrell Wilkes, 69, were
conducted on Friday, October 8 in the Dilday Funeral
Home Chapel with Bro. Lynn Stapleton officiating.
Interment followed in the Davis Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Wilkes died on Wednesday, October 6 at his home.
He was born July 12, 1935 in Carroll County to the late
Hershel Brown and Hester Gray Hampton Wilkes. He was
owner of Wilkes Taxi Service. He was preceded in death
by one brother, Larry Dale Wilkes.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Wood of Camden; a
son, Tony Wilkes of Huntingdon; a sister, Jane Cole of
McKenzie; a brother, Hershel Wilkes of Huntingdon; and

Connie Estelle Scates Montgomery
1912-2004
MCCOMB, MISSISSIPPI: Services for Connie Estelle
Scates Montgomery, 92, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday,
October 12 at the First United Methodist Church in
Huntingdon. Interment followed in Everett’s Chapel
Cemetery.
Mrs. Montgomery died on Monday, October 11 in McComb,
Mississippi.
She was born in Weakley County on January 13, 1912 to
the late Connie Lee Laster Scates and Ira Hampton Scates.
She was a longtime resident of Huntingdon before moving
to McComb where she has resided for the past four years.
She attended Bethel College and was a member of the
First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon. She was
involved in numerous church activities, including
teaching Sunday school, nursery attendant, and was a
member of the UMW Annie Maude Circle. She was the former
owner of Bob’s Dairy Bar, Estelle’s Fabric Shop and
Country Classic II in Huntingdon. She was also a member
of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob White
Montgomery; five brothers and one sister, Clinton,
Wilburn, Theron, Ira, Jr. and Tillman Scates and
Wilodean Looney.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Hogan and
Dianna Bray; one son, Dr. Bobby Montgomery; 12
grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Cindy Louise Gooch
1979-2004
HUNTINGDON: Services for Cindy Louise Gooch, 24,
will be conducted on Wednesday, October 13, at 11:00
a.m. at the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church
with Dr. Paul Mullikin and Rev. Dossie Wheatley
officiating. Interment will follow in the Carroll
Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Gooch died on Sunday, October 10 at her home.
The family will receive friends in the Cherry Wood Room
of Chase Funeral Home from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday and
8:00 a.m. until time of departure for the church on
Wednesday.
Mrs. Gooch was born November 19, 1979 in Union City. She
graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1998, was a
licensed practical nurse for the Care All Company and a
member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents,
Joe Lee and Louise Gooch, her maternal grandparents, Dr.
Herbert Gray and Wilma Giddens and two uncles.
Survivors include her husband, Alan Gooch, whom she
married June 15, 2002; her father and mother, Richard
and Gaye Gooch; two stepdaughters, Megan Gooch and
Adrienne Gooch; one stepson, Alan Gooch, Jr., all of
Huntingdon and two uncles and three aunts. |
