selection process. Congratulations to him for his
scholarship and for his exemplifying the Beta quality of
community service and high moral character.
Many members of our Wildlife Club are also members of
the MHS Trap Team. The Trap Team is coached by Tennessee
Wildlife Resource Agent Lance Rider and is dedicated to
developing trap shooting ability through safe, expert

have scheduled shoot dates with other schools later in
the spring. The team is led by Captains Amber King and
Justin Taylor, both seniors. Other members include
Samantha Doster, Brittany Lessenberry, Meredith
McKinney, Whitney Mobbs, Carson Rider, Will Merrick,
Matthew Taylor, Frankie Roberts, Lee Russell, Kendall
Smith, and Beau Brown. The team's first meet is Fish Fry

they played Chester County in the first game and
defeated the Eagles 5-2 with Jake Smith getting the win
and the save going to Drew Hayes. John French was 3-4.
Drew Hayes, Clint Manns, and Robert Jones each collected
key hits. In the second game against South Side the
Rebels lost 10-2. Robert Jones was 3-4 and John French

again on Wednesday against South Side losing narrowly
5-2. Jordon Trull pitched well in a losing effort. Jake
Smith had two hits in two official plate appearances for
the Rebels. On Friday, the Rebels traveled to Bruceton
to play the Tigers in cross-county action. Beau Brown
pitched a shut-out in 5 innings of work and the Rebels
pounded the Tigers 26-0 with all players on the squad
participating. This week the team played Lexington on
Monday at home. They play the same team again on Tuesday
away. On Wednesday, they play Greenfield. They end play
on Thursday with a road game to Henry County. As of
Friday their record stood at 5-6. Three of their six
losses have been by three runs or fewer.
The office of Representative John Tanner announced the
winners in the first level of the Congressional Art
Competition for 2004. The art work in the contest was
from all high schools in Carroll County. McKenzie High
School was well represented with both the first and
second place winners. Second place went to James Carter
for a pencil drawing of the Methodist Church. First
place went to Kent Ozment for an ink drawing entitled
"Hummingbird in Flight." Kent's work will now be entered
with all the county winners from Congressman Tanner's
district. The winner of that competition will be
announced by Congressman Tanner at a reception in
Jackson on April 24. Congratulations to James and Kent.
The softball team played district member Lexington on
Thursday. Brittany Carpenter played an extraordinary
game in leading the Lady Rebels to a 1-0 victory. She
pitched a one-hitter, scored the winning run, struck out
eight, and went 3 for 3 at the plate. She had strong
defensive support from her fielders in pushing her
record to 5-0 for the year. This weekend they played in
the Jackson South Side tournament. They won 2 games and
lost 2 games in the tournament. They defeated Huntingdon
3-0 and JCM 5-2. They lost to Crockett County 7-4 and
district champion Brighton 2-1. This week they played at
South Fulton on Monday and at Riverside on Tuesday.
Other games planned for the week are at home on
Wednesday against Westview and at Obion County on
Thursday.
The soccer team had two games last week. On Monday, they
played perennial powerhouse USJ. Although they played
hard, they played off-balance because of the Bruin's
strong offensive showing in dropping an 8-0 decision. On
Thursday, they traveled to Trenton to play the Golden
Tide. They narrowly lost by a score of 2-0. This week
the team plays at home on Tuesday against Jackson
Christian School.
On Thursday, we will issue Progress Reports for the
131/2 week mark in the semester. All students should
have these when they come home on April 8. Teachers are
in the process of telephoning parents whose students are
in danger of failing. We do have a study period after
school from 3:15 - 4:45 on Monday through Thursday.
Students can take advantage of the extended study time.
On Thursday, we will have a Talent Show for our Relay
for Life Team. Students may give a donation to attend
