The softball team had a busy week with four games played. On Monday, the team played cross-county foe Bruceton. Lauren Perritt picked up the win in the 7-2 victory. The team had two hits from Brittany Carpenter, NiCole West, and Courtney Creasy. Courtney also had four RBI's for the Lady Rebels. On Tuesday, the Lady Rebels opened up their district run with a win over Milan by a score of 10-5. Brittany Carpenter pitched for the Lady Rebels in grabbing the win. Brittany, MiRanda West, NiCole West, Jalisha Brown, Brooke Cole, and Lauren Perritt each had two hits in the successful offensive showing. The Lady Rebels found stiffer competition against the Huntingdon Fillies. Freshman Lauren Perritt pitched extremely well in the 10-inning loss to the visitors. The Lady Rebels could not overcome leaving 17 runners on base in the loss despite Brittany Carpenter's 4 for 6 performance at the plate. The week did not get easier with the game against the Camden Lady Lions on Thursday. NiCole West and Brittany Carpenter pitched for the home team and did a great job in holding the visitors to four runs. Unfortunately, the offense sputtered and could generate only three runs in the loss. Brooke Cole and Brittany Carpenter led the offense with two hits. This week the Lady Rebels travel to Westview on Monday. They play at home on Thursday against Lexington. This weekend they will play the Jackson South Side Classic on Friday and Saturday.

The tennis team had two matches this week at home against Camden on Monday and Huntingdon on Thursday. Against Camden the lone victories were with the boys team with Justin Petering winning his single's match and Justin and Cody Brown teaming together to win the double's match. On Thursday, Huntingdon blanked the Lady Rebels and Rebels in sweeping all matches. Members of the girls' team are Wendy Brown, Lauren Hickman, Katya Kesterson, Kari Sydnor, and Meredith McKinney. Members of the boys' team are Cody Brown, Holland Hames, Kellett Hochreiter, David King, and Justin Petering. The teams are coached by Dan Ridley. They had a match scheduled for Monday, March 29 at home against Lexington and will play Martin Westview.

The baseball team had a light week of action with two games slated. On Monday, the team traveled to perennial powerhouse Milan. Sophomore Drew Hayes pitched a masterful game in allowing three hits and two unearned runs. The Rebels, however, could not generate the offense needed and lost their district opener 2-1. On Friday, the Rebels returned to the home turf to take on the Panthers of Parsons-Riverside in district action. The team fell to the offensive onslaught of the visitors who hit three home runs. On Saturday the Rebels split a doubleheader in the Sports Plus Tournament in Jackson. They defeated Liberty Tech High School 5-1 with Beau Brown getting the win. Clint Anderson paced the Rebels with a triple for 3 RBI's. They lost the second game 11-1 to current Class A champion Davidson Academy. Robert Jones had a 3-3 day. On Monday, they played in the Sports Plus Tournament against Chester County and South Side. They will play at Bruceton on Friday.

The basketball teams and cheerleaders had their banquet and awards last Thursday in the cafeteria and Theater. After a delicious meal supplied for the athletes, coaches and wives, and school personnel by the Rebounders Club, the assembled adjourned to the Theater to recognize the student-athletes. Clayton Owen served as emcee and introduced cheerleaders sponsor Jennifer Yates. Mrs. Yates recognized all members of the squad and presented them a charm celebrating their state championship rerun. Special awards went to Callan Hayes, Most Improved; Savanna Cooper, Most Dedicated; and Amanda Rogers, Best All Around. Coach Dan Ridley praised the hard work and accomplishments of the Lady Rebels. The Democratic Women of Carroll County will sponsor a voter sign-up for our students on Wednesday, March 31, during lunch. This organization has done this activity for several years with the purpose of energizing voter turn-out and improving citizenship among potential young voters. The representatives have always encouraged students in a non-partisan way and we are pleased with their initiative in helping to make better citizens.

The soccer team has two matches planned for this week. On Monday, they were scheduled to play USJ (no results available at press time) and on Thursday they will travel to Trenton to challenge the Golden Tide. Members of the team are Lee Barham, Jose Becerra, Anthony Bell, Matthew Blaylock, Jake Brown, Kenny Carey, Jimmy Cox, Caleb Haywood, Alex Masullo, Jillian Maynard, Chase Mitchell, Caleb Owen, Zach Oyebi, Anna Randall, John Rhodes, Carson Rider, James Tucker, Danny Turner, Shane Wheet, Andrew Wilson, and Corey Wilson.

The track team will have its initial meet of the season on Saturday, April 3. The team is coached by David Duncan and David Cox. Coach Cox has coached the team after school in Coach Duncan's absence. The team has many returning athletes and should be competitive in the A-AA division. The meet on April 3 will be the JCM meet at USJ and will begin at 9:00 A.M.

The Balfour representative met with students on Monday, March 29. Students received a packet of information about rings along with payment options. I encourage parents to review the packet with your sophomore if he/she plans to purchase a ring. The representative will return on Thursday, April 1, to take orders during lunch. Balfour requires a $60.00 deposit at this time. All checks should be made payable to Balfour.
