  Scholarships and Awards Received by Area Seniors  
 
  
MCKENZIE

Amanda Allen will attend Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama this fall where she had been awarded an MMI Army ROTC Scholarship. The value of this scholarship is $7,000 per years for two years for a total of $14,000 in aid.

Kayla Bomar will attend Bethel College. She has been awarded a Bethel College Scholarship in the amount of $8,830 and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 for a four-year total of $47,320.

Mallory Brandon has been awarded a Dean’s Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 per year for four years to attend UT Martin. She will also receive an Alumni Valedictorian Scholarship through the University of Tennessee National Alumni Association in the amount of $1,500 per year for two years. In addition she has earned a $3,000 per year Tennessee Hope Scholarship and she is this year’s winner of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge No. 96 Free and Accepted Masons Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for a total award package of $22,000.

Brittani Bright has received a $4,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend Austin Peay State University for a total of $16,000 for four years.

Brad Campbell will be a member of the Bethel College football team this fall. His renewable scholarships include a football award in the amount of $5,000 and a Ben and Ludie Gaines Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. He has also received a RC and Annie Austin Scholarship through the Methodist Churches of Carroll County in the amount of approximately $1,000 over a four-year period for a total award package of $29,000.

Savanna Cooper will cheer this fall for the Murray State Racers. She has been awarded the Andy Camp Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $250.

Rebekah Cooper has received a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend Austin Peay State University for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Andrew Cross will be a member of the football team at the University of the South this fall. He has been awarded a University Grant in the amount of $17,430 per year and a President’s Award in the amount of $6,000 per year. He will receive a Tennessee Hope Scholarship with the General Assembly Merit Scholarship for having above a 29 ACT in the amount of $4,000 per year for four years. In addition, he has been awarded a $1,500 Will R. Manier Jr. Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the District 6760 Rotary Clubs of Tennessee and a $500 McKenzie Rotary Club Scholarship. His total award package is $97,320.

Daniel Duncan is undecided about his college choice. He has however received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 per year for four years for a total of $12,000 in aid.

Heather Flippin has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship to attend Austin Peay State University in the amount of $4,000 per year for four years. She has also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 per year bringing her total award package of $28,000.

John French will attend UT Martin this fall. He has been awarded a UTM Dean’s Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 for four years and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $4,000 for four years for a total of $22,000 in aid.

Kate Hames has been awarded the prestigious Hendrix Scholarship at Bethel College. This scholarship is awarded to only one person per year and covers the full cost of tuition, fees, room, board and books. The current value of this scholarship for Kate is $13,214 per year for four years. She also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship with the General Assembly Merit Scholarship for having above a 29 ACT in the amount of $4,000 per year bringing her total award package to $68,856,

Kelly Hampton has received a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend Austin Peay State University for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Sarah Hartz has the potential of receiving $54,000 over four years to attend Union University. Her scholarships include an Alumni Dependent Scholarship, a Tennessee Baptist Convention Scholarship, an Academic Scholarship, an Alumni Leadership Scholarship, a CB Bryant/McKenzie Church Matching Scholarship and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship.

Mary Holland has been awarded an Academic Scholarship in the amount of $3,500 per years and a Lipscomb Merit Award in the amount of $250 per year to attend Lipscomb University this fall. Additionally, she has received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 per year for a total of $27,000.

John Craig Howell will be a member of the football team at the University of the South this fall. He has been awarded a University Grant in the amount of $11,680 per year and a President’s Award in the amount of $6,000 per year. He has also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship with the General Assembly Merit Scholarship for having above a 29 ACT in the amount of $4,000 per year for four years. In addition, he has received a one-time McKenzie Rotary Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and he is this year’ winner of the Rodney Taylor Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 per year for four years. His total award package is $87,720.

Bryan Huffman has been awarded a position in the President’s Emerging Leader’s Program at Austin Peay State University. This program offers a scholarship in the amount of $3,000 per year for four years. He has also received a $3,000 per year Tennessee Hope Scholarship and a one-time $1,000 McKenzie High School Scholarship. In addition, he has been awarded a Leadership Award from the Johnsonville Black Leadership and Development Network in the amount of $250 for a total of $25,250 in aid.

Jessica Johnson has received a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend UT Chattanooga. She has also been awarded a RC and Annie Austin Scholarship through the Methodist Churches of Carroll County in the amount of approximately $1,000 over a four-year period for a total of $13,000 in aid.

Robert Jones has received a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend Austin Peay State University for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Eryn Kelly has been awarded a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend UT Martin for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Amber King has received an Academic Scholarship in the amount of $10,400 over the course of four years to attend Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.

Christy Lowe will be a member of the marching band at UT Martin this fall. She has been awarded an $800 Band Scholarship and a $4,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship, both of which are renewable. She has also received a one-time McKenzie High School Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for total package of $20,200.

Clint Manns will be a member of the Bethel College baseball team this fall. His renewable scholarships include a baseball award in the amount of $4,630, an Athletic/Academic Scholarship for $1,000, a Ben and Ludie Gaines Scholarship for $2,000 and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000. His total package for four years is $42,520.

Roger Morris has been awarded a package totaling $42,724 from Bethel College. His renewable scholarships include a Renaissance Scholarship in the amount of $4,681, a $2,000 Dean’s Scholarship and a $4,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship.

Kasey Nicholson has received a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend UT Chattanooga for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Kent Ozment has been awarded a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend UT Martin for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Sydney Patterson has received a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend UT Chattanooga for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Tasha Rainey has been awarded a Wilder/Naifeh Technical Skills Grant through the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program to attend one of the Tennessee Technology Centers. This award is valued at $1,250 per year and is renewable until the program is completed.

Amanda Rogers has been awarded a one-time Leaders in Residence Scholarship to attend UT Martin. She has also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $4,000 per year for four years for a total of $17,000.

Brittany Russell has received a RC and Annie Austin Scholarship through the Methodist Churches of Carroll County in the amount of approximately $1,000 over a four-year period.

Jake Smith has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship to attend Austin Peay State University in the amount of $3,500 per year for four years. He has also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 per year and a RC and Annie Austin Scholarship through the Methodist Churches of Carroll County in the amount of approximately $1,000 over a four-year period bringing his total award package to $27,000.

Kristopher Sydnor will be a member of the Bethel College football team this fall. His renewable scholarships include a football award in the amount of $2,320, an Athletic/Academic Scholarship for $1,000 and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000. His total package for four years is $30,280.

Brittany Taylor has been awarded a full-tuition scholarship through the African-American Scholars Program at the University of Memphis. The value of this award is $4,230 per year for four years. She has also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $4,000 per year for a total award of $32,936.

Justin Taylor has received a $4,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend UT Martin for a total of $16,000 for four years.

Mallory Twyman has received a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend UT Martin for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Brittany Washburn has been awarded a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend Middle Tennessee State University for a total of $12,000 for four years.

Heather Weirs has been awarded a UTM Gooch Freshman Scholarship/Workship from UT Martin. This award includes a $1,000 scholarship for the freshman years and a $1,500 workship for the sophomore, junior and senior years. In addition, she has received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 per year for four years for a total award package of $17,500.

Renee Wilson has received a Union Grant in the amount of $2,000 per year for four years to attend Union University. She has also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000 for four years for a total of $24,000 in aid.

Joseph Winchester will attend Bethel College this fall. He has been awarded a Bethel College Scholarship in the amount of $8,830 and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 for a four-year total of $47,320.

Jonathan Wood has received a $4,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend Freed-Hardeman University for a total of $16,000 for four years.

McKenzie graduates received a total of $1,101,166 to attend 14 different colleges, universities or technical schools ($501,250 of the total amount comes from lottery money).

GLEASON

Ashley Shea Alvey will receive the Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000 a year renewable for up to five years. She plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin and major in pre-veterinary medicine.

Kelly Nicole Anderson will receive the Wilder/Naifeh Technical Skills Grant in the amount of $1,250 per year and will be attending the Tennessee Technology Center at Paris to be included in their business systems technology program.

Lindsey Renee Brawner will receive the Wilder/Naifeh Technical Skills Grant in the amount of $1,250 per year and will be attending the Tennessee Technology Center at Paris to be included in their business systems technology program.

Anthony Garrett Cole received the Bob Owen Award which is a $500 savings bond; he plans to attend UTM to major in computer science.

Carrie Marie Edenfield has received a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship to attend Jackson State Community College, renewable for up to five years. She plans to become a respiratory therapist.

Felicia Nichole Etheridge has chosen Bethel College and will receive a Women’s Basketball Manager Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 per year and an Athletic/Academic Scholarship for $6,000 per year. She will also receive a Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 per year. Her career plans are to become a forensic scientist.

Jessica Renee Forrest will attend Bethel College in the fall and is the recipient of the Dean’s Honor Scholarship for $2,000 per year and the Tennessee Hope Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 per year. She will participate in the pre-med program.

Ryne Wacey Gearin has received the Vincent Implements, Inc. of Martin $200 scholarship to attend UT Martin; a $3,000 Tennessee Hope Scholarship; and a Gleason Gazelles Women’s Organization Good Citizenship award which includes a plaque and a $250 savings bond. He plans to study communications.

Christopher Joe Griffin will attend Bethel College and has earned the Bethel College Grant and the Contiguous County Scholarship in the amount of $1,200 per year. He plans to study wildlife management.

Melody Alyce Hopper will receive the Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000 per year and a $500 scholarship from the H.C. Spinks Clay Company in cooperation with UT Martin. She wants to be an attorney.

Jennifer Rose Jones will attend Bethel College to major in elementary education. She has received a Bethel College Honor Scholarship for $1,000 per year, a Bethel College Grant for $2,000 per year and a Cumberland Presbyterian Grant for $500 per year. She also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 per year.

Nicholas Andrew Jones will receive the Wilder/Naifeh Skills Grant for $1,250 to attend the Tennessee Technology Center in Paris and will participate in the auto body program.

Jodie Marie Kent has received a $1,250 Wilder/Naifeh Grant to attend Tennessee Technology Center in Paris to study cosmetology.

Ryan Allen Mathis received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 and will major in engineering at UT Martin.

Brittany McCall Mebane received the Academic Service Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 per year for four years from Middle Tennessee State University. She also received one of six Borel Brick Scholarships for $3,000 and the Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000, renewable for four years. She plans to major in pre-law.

Teaya Santon Miller will attend Middle Tennessee State University and has been chosen to receive a Scholarship Award presented by the Naomi Chapter of the County Line Masonic Lodge. She plans to participate in the allied health program.

Cory Evan Morris will attend Bethel College to major in business administration and will receive a Bethel College Grant for $2,500 per year and a Contiguous County Scholarship for $1,000 per year.

Kristie Lynn Newsom will be attending UTM to major in marketing. She has been awarded the UTM Dean’s Scholarship for $1,500 per year for four years, the Salutatorian Scholarship for $1,000 and the Leaders-in-Residence Scholarship for $1,000. She has also received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 per year and the Spinks Clay Company Scholarship for $400, named in honor of Murrel French. She also received the James Buckley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution Gleason School and Weakley County Good Citizen awards and the Woodman of the World American History Award.

Jessica Hope Parsley will be attending UTM to prepare for a career in public relations. She will receive a Leaders-in-Residence Scholarship for $1,000 and the Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000. She also received the AMA Insurance Agency Scholarship named for Mrs. Dareen Owen in the amount of $500.

Jenny Lauren Ross will attend Bethel College to study accounting. She has been awarded a Trustee’s Honor Scholarship for $4,000 per year and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 per year.

Katie Frances Spain has received the $1,000 Bank of Gleason Scholarship; the United States Army Reserve Scholar/Athlete Award, the Gleason Gazelle’s Good Citizenship Award which includes a plaque and a $250 savings bond and will continue her education at Sullivan University to major in the culinary arts.

Maegan Denise Sullivan will continue her education while playing on the golf team at Tennessee Technical University in Cookeville with a scholarship worth $3,700 per year for four years and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 per year. She was the recipient of the Wendy’s Heismann Award. She will study computer science.

Aaron Patrick Williams received the Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000 per year and will attend UT Martin.

Catherine Ashley Wilson will receive a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000 and will attend UT Martin to pursue a degree as an occupational therapist.

Joshua Eric Wiseman will attend UTM to major in engineering. He has received a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000 per year.

HUNTINGDON

Jessica Tucker was the recipient of the Grace Moore Vocal Scholarship in the amount of $17,800, University of Tennessee Volunteer Scholarship for $16,000 from University of Tennessee, National Alumni Association Scholarship for $3,000 and the Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000 per year, renewable for four years.

Audrey Haywood received the University of Tennessee Volunteer Scholarship for $16,000 and the Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $4,000 per year.

Jack Smothers received the Academic Scholarship in the amount of $18,000 from Union University, Robert C. Byrd Scholarship for $1,500, the Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 per year for four years and the R.C. and Annie Austin Scholarship.

Jada Butler received an Academic Scholarship for $16,000 from Union University and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 each year for four years.

Kala Edwards received a Merit Scholarship for $24,000 from Belmont University and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 each year for four years.

Stafanie Hampton received a Women’s Golf Scholarship for $6,000, Athletic Academic Scholarship for $16,000 from Bethel College and a Tennessee Hope Scholarship for $3,000 each year for four years.
