Polar-opposite teams met at Hollow Rock-Bruceton
Central Friday afternoon. McKenzie was totally on and Central was totally off in a
battle that the Rebels won 27-0. The Rebels sent 50 men
to the plate in a game that ended in four innings.
Simply put, it wasn't the Tigers' day. They entered the
game with a 4-0 mark, but McKenzie hitters had big eyes
on the day.
Drew Hayes got things rolling with a first-inning home
run and the carousel of scoring started to spin. Clint
Manns had three hits, including two ground-rule doubles,
and three RBI. Jordan Trull had a three-run triple in
the third inning. John French had two RBI. Mark Ghyers
had a single, double and three RBI. Hayes was a triple
shy of hitting for the cycle. Brad Campbell had an RBI
double; Jake Smith and Daniel Hollowell each pounded RBI
singles.
In the fourth, 16 McKenzie batters came to the plate as
some of the younger hitters got a chance. And they made
the best of it. John Kermit Laughery had an RBI single.
Justin Wilson had a single and two RBI. James Lee also
had a single and two RBI. Starting pitcher Beau Brown
had two hits and two RBI.
In addition, Beau improved to 3-0 on the season. He
faced 13 batters, one more than the minimum, striking
out three, walking none and issuing one hit.

Huntingdon’s Mustangs traveled to Martin last Friday
afternoon to meet the Chargers in a non-district match and
came home with an 8-5 victory. The game was a thriller for
fans as the two rivals battled for the win. By the top of
the seventh inning, the game was tied at five. Terrence
Bell, who already had a triple for the day, went to the
plate and with two men on base, hit a homerun to put the
Stangs up 8-5, the final score of the afternoon. Will
White picked up his second victory of the season while
Adam Carter had a double and Brian Nellett had two hits.
Saturday, the Mustangs hosted Dyer County’s Choctaws and
fell in an 8-1 game which was plagued by errors and
scattered hits. After a scoreless first inning, Dyer
County picked up a single run in the top of the second.
Adam Carter reached base for Huntingdon in the bottom of
the inning, but was left at second. The top of the third,
the Stangs had two outs, but the Choctaws were able to get
a runner on base with a single and then a few errors
contributed to four Dyer County runs, giving them a 5-0
lead. After holding Dyer County in the fourth inning,
Will White led off with a single and ultimately scored
after Carter doubled to left field, but the Stangs left
the bases loaded when they made the final out. Dyer County
now led 5-1. The top of the fifth inning was another good
one for the Choctaws, who scored three additional runs to
take an 8-1 lead. Adam Parish singled in the bottom of the
fifth and Nellett reached second on a good hit to center
field, but both were left on base. The game ended with
Nellett, who was hit by a pitch and Spellings, who hit the
ball to the shortstop, were both thrown out on a double
play. Spellings took the loss while Spencer Clifft came in
to pitch in relief the final two innings. |
