Lady Rebels Defeat Lady Tigers in Non-District Contest

After a poor showing on Monday night, the Lady Rebels rebounded with a superb night of shooting against the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Lady Tigers. Hosting the game, the Lady Rebels found shots coming easily from the field, but faltered at the charity stripe, hitting only 10 of 25 attempts for the night. The Lady Tigers had difficulty shooting from the field but were 10 of 17 at the charity stripe.

McKenzie came out hitting well and playing hard, taking a 16-10 lead after one. As the game progressed, McKenzie continued to improve their margin, leading 39-23 by intermission, 60-32 after three and ultimately winning the game 76-44.

Leading McKenzie were Anna Trull and Renee Crawley with 24 and 23 points respectively. Courtney Wiggins added 14 to the Lady Rebel total, followed by Brooke Cole with nine, Jill Taylor with three, Lindsey King with two and Andrea Swan with one. Trull hit two three-pointers for the night.

Heaven Wilks led the Lady Tigers with 11, followed by Ernicka Willis with nine, Nikita Washum with seven, Jessica Willis with six, Heather King and Beatrice King with four each, Tiffany Cathy with two and Elise Malacara with one.
 
     
 

Fillies, Mustangs Win District Contests over Hollow Rock-Bruceton

Both the Fillies and Mustangs had to come from behind to gain district wins last Friday night over the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Lady Tigers and Tigers. Both games were highly contested and close as Huntingdon pulled out both victories.

In the opening contest the Lady Tigers took the early lead, with an 8-7 advantage after one period and 22-18 at intermission. The third quarter, the Fillies came out hitting just a little better and took a 33-31 advantage by the end of three before winning the game 48-40.

Payten Butler led the Fillies with 18, followed by Jessica Carlton with a three-pointer and 11, Jessica Hilliard with nine, Casey Henson with a three-pointer and five, Courtney Henson and Ashlee Porter with two each and Chasity Strayhorn with one.

Ernicka Willis led the Lady Tigers with 14, followed by Heather King with eight, Heaven Wilks with six, Jessica Willis and Beatrice King with four each and Alyssa Malacara and Elise Malacara with two each.

In the night’s second game, the Tigers led for three quarters before the Mustangs Chris Donald and Brent Taylor scored eight and six respectively in the fourth period to help the Stangs take the lead.

The Tigers led 14-12 after one, 29-22 at intermission and 35-31 after three before losing the game 56-52. The final period, Chris Donald led the Stangs with eight while Brent Taylor added six to push the Stangs in front despite the 11-point effort from Tiger Kerry Hunt.

Donald and Blake Hampton led the Stangs with 11 each, followed by Taylor with eight, Will Atkins and Garrett Meggs with seven each, Desmond Townes with six, Justin Hampton with four and Roy Carter with two.

Orey Willis led the Tigers with 22, followed by Hunt with 20, Tanner Stepp with eight and Russell Noles with two.

Meggs hit the only three-pointer for the Stangs while Stepp hit two for the Tigers and Willis and Hunt had one each.
 
     
 

West Carroll Wins Two over Bradford

Although they were not district contests, games held last Tuesday at West Carroll against Bradford proved to be big victories as the Lady War Eagles won their game 71-40 and the War Eagles were victorious in an 87-51 victory.

The Lady War Eagles placed three in double figures with Rachel Arnold hitting a three-pointer and scoring 22 overall points. April Gilliam hit two shots from three-point range and followed with 21 awhile Brittany Luther had 13 points for the night. Emily Hall had seven, Shanta Emerson scored four, Ashley Powell had three and Cierra King had one for the night.

After taking a 17-13 lead in the first period, the Lady War Eagles improved their margin to 30-20 by intermission and 50-34 at the end of three.

The War Eagles game was also decided early as they took a 21-7 lead in the first period, improved the margin to 31-17 by intermission and 71-30 by the end of the third before inning 87-51. Jonason Hawkins led four players in double figures wit 26 points for the night. Lorenzo Stewart had 23, including four three-pointers. Cameron Hunt had 15 and Xavier Webb contributed 12. Also scoring were Alex Johnson, Brandon Luther (one shot) and Chris Baker with three each and Brandon Carter with two.

Friday night the War Eagles and Lady War Eagles continued to score well with the ladies winning their district contest over Big Sandy 83-33 and the War Eagles winning theirs 88-42. In the first contest, Arnold led the ladies with 45 total points while Gilliam (two three-pointers) added 25 and in the boys, Webb (four three-pointers) had a 38-point night and Stewart (three shots from three-point range) scored 27.

The opening game found the Lady War Eagles in total control of the contest with a 20-7 lead after one and a 46-17 lead at intermission. By the end of three, West Carroll led 64-23. Also contributing points in the victory were Luther with six, Tori Mathis with five and Hall with two.

The War Eagles led 28-14 after one, 49-25 by intermission and 72-37 after three. In addition to the four players in double figures, Baker contributed two in the victory.
